One component of a mini-site promoting Serena Williams' debut Nike collection was an AOL Expression (pictured above, top and left). Users could see a preview of the products, play a game of tennis-pong, and try to guess what Serena deemed hot or not.
Our target audience for the launch of Nike Sphere was teenage boys. We created an appropriately gross multi-level game inside of the AOL chat window (pictured above, bottom and right), where the hero battled such foes as buckets of sweat or pissing camels with the aid of his Nike gear. This innovative use of the chat medium was also a first for AOL, as we proposed installing the AOL Expression (or "skin") directly from a banner.
