all this time denouncing the screen: i’m sick of the screen, tied to the screen. this is the right idea for interactive projects in general, but maybe not so for text and the written word. what’s wrong with a surface, after all? a video projection extends the page, is as limiting as the page, but why fight that? work with it, work with the reader’s understanding of a surface, a plane for text. don’t worry. the projected surface is a new kind of page for you. writing evolved on mostly flat surfaces, is cut deep with the experience of living in two dimensions. tablets, scrolls, folios, facades, street signs. let the words lie down, or be propped against a wall for support.
